Clitterhouse Pavilion
A net-zero welcoming and inclusive sports and active play pavilion in the Clitterhouse Playing Fields in Brent, North London.
The competition proposal seeks to create a distinctive and uplifting pavilion for all visitors of the Clitterhouse Playing Fields. The bold use of colour and form are derived from the local and historic context; bright red cladding can be seen on surrounding houses and the rudimentary building forms reference the structures which would have been present when the site was used as emergency allotments.
A simple, playful and light-hearted design will have a wider appeal and therefore promote inclusivity. The pavilion is located centrally to ensure visibility from all entrances and to allow wide views out across the playing fields. A generous foyer can be used for displaying information to educate visitors or for exhibitions and events. The layout allows each building to be used separately if required and a single storey design ensures greater accessibility. The construction will be timber frame with metal (zinc) cladding; cladding tbc once further research on sustainability is carried out.
